Don't stress or worry about this. It doesn't matter if you have very little experience using tools... anyone can learn how to make a wind generator. I strongly recommend using a book or e-book that is designed for newbies.
There are a few products out on the market, but my favourite is the number one selling e-book. It's called Earth4Energy and you can find it hosted at Residential Wind Generators.
Have a good look at all the information the author provides... including the case study with eleven people that built one using only his directions. Of course it was a success. Also, this is the e-book I first used when I built my first wind turbine. I didn't know how to make a wind generator, but Michael (the author) made it easy for me.

Update on "How to Build Wind Generators"
Well, it won't let me post the youtube video from the post "How To Build Wind Generators - Thank goodness yours are this big!" so I will simply leave you the link to the video here.

How to Build Wind Generators - Thank goodness yours aren't this big!

As you can tell, I'm a bit freaky about my love for wind turbines. :P I did want to share one video before I call it a night.
I was looking for videos of residential wind generators in action, but you know how it is... you click one video and then you see a list of slightly relevant videos. Well, having two young sons, you can imagine what type of videos were attracting their attention. Anyway, many of the videos we watched consisted of trucks and transport vehicles... not sure what slang you would use. There are tons of videos of the giant wind turbine blades being transported. I thought I would share one of them with you. Look at how long this thing is... ridiculous. I have taken great interest into how to build wind generators and I'm grateful the small ones require no such effort as this.
I should also mention that as my husband and I traveled across the country two and a half years ago, we passed five of the giant wind turbine blades. It was quite the sight.
I'm still trying to get the hang of this, so look around for a youtube video box. :)
Wind Turbine Blades

Wind turbine blades can come in many different shapes and sizes, but essentially, they are long and skinny, LOL. I more want to discuss the materials used for when you make your own wind turbine.
You can create your wind turbine blades using either wood or pvc piping. Wood is much heavier than the pvc piping and is quite durable and withstands the elements quite well. PVC piping is very endurable however you need to treat the blades with UV retardant coatings to help keep the blades fresh and not brittle.

Welcome to Residential Wind Generators

Welcome to the site and the first post! Nothing better than the first post on a shiny, brand new blog. :) My name is Branden and I'm the blogger at Residential Wind Generators.
I will use this blog to discuss various aspects of wind turbines. I am first and foremost, a green enthusiast. I see home wind generators as an opportunity to help cut our energy consumption and therefore make our imprint on the environment smaller. Also, residential wind turbines help people save money. Typically, you can build one for under $200 and this would power all of your household appliances. Pretty neat, eh?
